Broadway to Richmond
As many of our friends know, Mac and I are huge fans of Broadway Theatre. Mac himself invested in two hit, Tony Award winning productions on Broadway: the revivals of SWEENEY TODD with Patti Lupone and COMPANY with Raul Esparza. It was very exciting for us to play a small role in bringing such exciting theatre to life. Of course, we will be watching the Tony Awards this Sunday night. Raul is nomintated a third time for a Tony award, and we are hoping he will win! He was fantastic in COMPANY, and we will never forget attending the Tony Awards that year at Radio City Music Hall. His rendition of BEING ALIVE from COMPANY still gives me goose bumps. Check it out on YouTube. It defines showstopper! Mac and I will be heading to NYC for a short vacation at the end of June. While Mac is not especially a fan of musicals (with the exceptions of SWEENEY TODD, COMPANY, and ironically, THE SOUND OF MUSIC!), we will be seeing the revivals of SOUTH PACIFIC and WEST SIDE STORY, which is my all time favorite musical! We are also supporters of our local theatres here in town, especially the Barksdale Theatre, the Firehouse Theatre, and Triangle Players. Each of these local theatres have staged plays as good as anything we have seen on Broadway, and we stand in awe of what they are able to achieve with limited budgets and spaces. Next time you are in Richmond, consider seeing a show at one of our local theatres.
