Translation of Portuguese Sign in Maury Place Courtyard

I posted a blog in May seeking assistance in translating a small plaque on the wall in our rear courtyard here at Maury Place. We received numerous suggestions from friends and from the blog. After consulting last night with Eduardo, a Portuguese visitor of our neighbors Janet and Gary, we have concluded that the best translation is as follows:
"The future is hope.
The present is reality.
The past is a memory colored by nostalgia."
This strikes me as a fairly pragmatic moral. Although it is not as romantic as I had hoped, it is certainly true!
Thank you to all who helped us figure this puzzle out!
Mystery solved!
