Maury Place Website Updated

We have just updated our Maury Place website with a new page featuring an archive of our past newsletters. We send out newsletters about 6 times per year with specials and information for our guests. Our December Newsletter featured our Christmas specials and our holiday decorations, including a cute picture of our inn dogs in their holiday decor! Our February Newsletter featured our Valentine and romance specials, along with our Carytown shopping package..

Our next newsletter will come out in April, perhaps featuring what we learned at our national Bed and Breakfast conference in Atlanta. In the meantime you can check out our website for Richmond VA attractions as well as Maury Place specials.

We are continuing to update our website to make it more interesting and useful. Our next planned additions are an update to our "tours" and photos page. We would like to show "before and after" pictures of our renovations, along with a movie tour of the bed and breakfast. We also want to have a recipe page for all of Jeff's great breakfast dishes.

Breakfast Recipe to Share

I am always looking for recipes for interesting breakfast side dishes--especially ones that add color to the plate! Here is one that has quickly become one of my favorites--Mint-Topped Broiled Oranges. This is great for any number of people because you can prepare only the exact quantity you need. Here is the recipe for two portions. Cut a large navel orange in half crosswise and cut a thin slice off the bottom of each half so it will sit steady on a foil covered baking sheet. Then run a knife around each half to loosen the orange from the peel. Do not remove the peel, however. Stir together 2 tsp melted butter and 1/2 tsp chopped fresh mint. If desired, you may add 1 tbsp of orange liqueur. Spoon the mixture evenly over the cut sides of the orange halves. Place the orange halves, cut side up, on the foil lined baking sheet. Broil five inches from heat for five to eight minutes or until thoroughly heated. The colorful and tasty orange halves make a great addition to almost any breakfast plate! Bon Appetit!!

Maury Place Innkeepers Travel to Bed and Breakfast Conference

Each year the Professional Association of Innkeepers International holds a convention featuring educational workship and forums discussing the state of the B&B industry. We have attended each year in order to learn the best practices for running Maury Place. Topics this year include: practices for green innkeeping, emerging technologies, website design, and travel & the recession. There is also a large trade show featuring guest amenities, supplies, and the latest in technology.

We invest time each year to attend these conferences because we are committed to providing the best for our guests!

Maury Place - A Popular Richmond Virginia Bed and Breakfast

Open only 4 months, Maury Place is proving popular with travelers. Each month we have had more reservations, and so far in March we have booked 53% of all available room nights! Guests have come from all over, for all reasons-- for business, local universities, shopping, and visiting museums and local attractions. Guests have enjoyed many of our packages and specials, such as an in-room massage, or our romance package.

Our most popular room is our Pathfinder Suite, followed closely by the Fontaine Suite, then the Belmont Suite.

Spring at Maury Place

March started with a snowstorm, but Spring is beautiful now at Maury Place, Richmond's luxury Bed and Breakfast! This weekend will be sunny and warm, perfect for a stroll down Monument Avenue, located right out our front door.

March is a great month to visit Richmond VA, with lots of attractions including a film festival and a 10K road race.

March 27th through29th, the Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond present the French Film Festival. Reserve your room at Maury Place now and you'll be able to walk to the screenings held at The Byrd Theatre.

March 28th is the 10th Anniversary of Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k, which runs right by our front porch. Guests who book the Pathfinder Suite will have a view of the race from their own private balcony.

Maury Place Web Site Updates

We have just updated our Packages and Room Add-ons page of the Maury Place web site. We feature a wide variety of ways to make your visit more special, from in-room massage, a Virginia Wine or Champagne Package, to a Carytown Shopping Package. Enhance your romantic getaway with flowers, chocolates, or a complete Romance Package!

In the near future, we will further update our site with online booking (coming April 2009) and video. Stay tuned!

Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia Launches New Website

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia has launched it's brand new website, featuring easier navigation and more information. Maury Place is a member of the B&B association, which has a membership of 200 inns throughout Virginia. We are unique in the US as the only B&B association to use independent inspectors to certify our inns.

Maury Place is also a member of Historic Richmond Inns, the professional association of Richmond Virginia B&B owners.

Maury Place Duplex Renovation Almost Complete

For the last 3 months we have been renovating the duplex next door to Maury Place. This property is historically tied to Maury Place, as it was the doctor's office of Dr. Weitzel, who owned Maury Place for many decades starting in the 1920's. You can read about the both of these historic properties on the History Page of our website.

We are excited to complete the interior renovations at the duplex. The duplex itself will not be part of our bed and breakfast at Maury Place, but both properties will have a common back yard with a pool. The back yard and pool will be available for use by Maury Place guests as guest amenities. Landscaping for the duplex and back yard will be completed in June.

Maury Place Featured On Cover Of Bed and Breafast Association Of Virginia Directory

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virgina chose the picture of Maury Place to feature on the cover of it's 2009 Directory. We were suprised and delighted when we learned we were chosen. The Virginia B&B directory features all member inns, and is distributed widely to inns, and tourist offices.

Maury Place Featured In Richmond Newspaper!

Reporter Louis Llovio from the Richmond Times-Dispath featured Maury Place in his "Biz Buzz" column on March 2! In the article, Louis describes us as innkeepers, our goals, and our experiences so far. He also featured our new Richmond VA Bed and Breakfast Association, Historic Richmond Inns.

March Enters Like a Lion!

March 1st brought a snowstorm to Richmond and Maury Place was blanketed in a beautiful coat of white powder. Forest Hill Park had a multitude of sledders, young and old alike. Monument Avenue was full of winter walkers, bundled up and enjoying the extra day off before the roads were cleared. Inside the Inn, warm drinks and backgammon were served up while the fireplaces blazed.



All of Richmond will be speaking French as Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond present the French Film Festival on March 27th through the 29th. Reserve your room at Maury Place now and you'll be able to walk to the screenings held at The Byrd Theatre.



March 28th is the 10th Anniversary of Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k. The front porch at Maury Place is a great place to cheer the runners as they go by. Guests who book the Pathfinder Suite will have a view of the race from their own private balcony. Runners with a grand sense of humor will dress up for the race to compete for a prize in individual and group categories from the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Many participants are also running for local charities, such as the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Bring your posters and banners to encourage your favorite road runners!
