Maury Place Inn Dog Blog

My name is Chico-- I am one of the Maury Place Inn Dogs. Jeff and Mac are busy serving breakfast (featuring a Savory Egg Cup with Mismosas), so I thought I would do a blog. A "dog blog"-- hmmm....

Yesterday was an exciting day because Mac brought Lucy and I home a new car to drive. In the picture to the left you can see us in our new convertible 350Z with Mac. (Mac owns Pence Nissan, so I think he got a good deal on our new car).

I also spent a large part of yesterday supervising our pool construction. As you can see, they are now putting decorative tile around the edge. The pool will be ready by June for our inn guests!

It is almost 9:00 am, and you know what that means-- time for a doggie nap! Talk to you later!

Monument Avenue 10k

We want to share with you some pictures of Richmond's Monument Avenue 10k that ran March 30th. As you can see from the pictures, the course ran right by Maury Place.

Both of Richmond's premier running events, the Richmond Marathon and the 10k, pass right by our front door, and can be viewed from our front porch or from the Pathfinder suite balcony.

One of our couples staying at Maury Place that weekend ran the 10k. Mac has run both the 10k and the Marathon in the past, and hopes to be able to do so in the future.

Green Virginia! Green Richmond! Green Maury Place!

Last Sunday was a perfect day for the Monument Avenue Easter on Parade! Once breakfast was done, and our guests were on their way, our friend Ann and I ventured out for Monument Avenue's annual Easter promenade. Of course, we took Chico and Lucy as well wearing their Easter bandannas! We greeted many friends and many breeds of doggies along the way!

Both the arrival of Spring and Virginia's Historic Garden Week are upon us just as the trees are budding new green and the azeleas and dogwood are reaching their peak bloom! These few weeks of early spring are perhaps the most beautiful of the year in Richmond. With the arrival of warm spring days, Mac, Chico, Lucy, and I have enjoyed lingering on our front porch to greet neighbors and friends out for a stroll or a jog on the Avenue. We usually spot several dogs walking their owners as well! April 22 is Earth Day, and Maury Place has just been certified as "Virginia Green" by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. We make every effort to employ environmentally sensitive green practices here at Maury Place. We have posted a list of our green practices on our website on the "About Us" page under "Green Lodging."

We are now creating special "green" packages in cooperation with our friends at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia's finest art museum just steps away from Maury Place. Stay tuned!

Easter on Parade!!

It's hard to believe that this Sunday, April 12, will be Easter Sunday! Time flies! It seems like we just had our first guests on last Halloween, and now here it is Easter! My Easter bunny collection and Easter egg tree are on full display at Maury Place! My mother was a collector of holiday decor--among other things--and I inherited her collections and her interest in decorating for every holiday! Of course, THE Richmond Easter event is Monument Avenue's Easter on Parade. Just steps out our front door, Monument Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic on Easter Sunday between Boulevard and Lee Circle so folks may stroll down The Avenue in their Easter finery. There will be many Easter bonnets (on humans and canines alike!!), and Monument Avenue's Easter Parade is certainly in my top ten events for people watching! We have been in New York City on Easter Sunday for that city's Easter promenade down Fifth Avenue, and I must say, it does not hold a candle to Richmond's own Easter event. If you have never been, it is a MUST for Richmonders and visitors alike!

Professional Innkeepers Conference

We have just returned from the annual conference of the Professional Association of Innkeepers International in Atlanta, where we further refined our innkeeping skills. Although Maury Place has only been open five months, this was our third year to attend this annual conference. We always learn something new every year, and we enjoy mingling with other innkeepers from all over the country and from abroad! Workshops at the conference cover everything you can imagine-- breakfast cooking, cleaning, websites & marketing, bookkeeping, customer service, and more! There was even a workshop on how to do a blog! We also enjoyed seeing fellow Richmond innkeepers, Pat Daniels & Mike Rhode, from the William Miller House in Atlanta for the conference. We shared a wonderful seafood dinner at Ray's in the City on Peachtree Street. Mac and I also had a wonderful birthday dinner (my 47th!) on March 31 at Dogwood. Atlanta was a great town to visit, but we are delighted to be back with our guests at Maury Place. We had a full house the weekends both before and after our trip out of town! We are so grateful to our many new friends and to our Richmond neighbors and supporters who have referred guests to us at Maury Place. Thank you all!!
