Civil War and Emancipation Day on April 17: Enjoy Richmond Museums for Free!
On next Saturday, April 17, more than 15 Richmond museums will offer activities, special programs, historic interpretations, and guided tours FOR FREE! The American Civil War Center, the Black History Museum and Cultural Center, the John Marshall House, the Library of Virginia, the Museum of the Confederacy, and the Valentine History Center are just a few of the participating museums and institutions. In addition, free shuttle service will be offered downtown and throughout the Museum District along Boulevard to the participating sites. Venture Richmond and Segway of Richmond will also offer free River District Canal Cruises and Segway tours of Brown's Island. Events start at 9:45 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m. One Day. Fifteen Sites Citywide. All for free! The day is coordinated by The Future of Richmond's Past, a citywide effort by the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Union University to commemorate the 150th anniversaries of the Civil War and the end of American slavery.
