Virginia Innkeepers Diary: Date Night is Important!

One of the things that we learned at various innkeeper gatherings, either with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia or the Professional Association of Innkeepers International, is the importance of setting aside private time for ourselves. We enjoy being innkeepers, but it is also very important to have some "down time" to keep ourselves fresh and motivated to serve guests in our home. It is also good for our marriage!! Mac and I make every effort to set aside Wednesday or Thursday night as a "Date Night." Last night was just such a night, and we had a great time! We started off with a glass of wine at Carytown's new wine bar "Secco." The proprietor is Julia, who we know from her wine shop next door, River City Cellars. Secco is a great spot for a pre- or post-theatre glass of wine. They also serve light food. We will definitely go back! After that, we had dinner at one of Carytown's newest restaurants, Bovenu--and we loved it! Mac had a delicious salmon and I had a perfectly done filet mignon. We are so happy to discover both new spots in Carytown, and we look forward to returning. After dinner, we went to see the latest production of Richmond's Triangle Players, "Take Me Out." We had seen the show during its original Broadway run a few years ago, and our new production here in Richmond was excellent! We returned home grateful for the escape and again amazed at what great opportunities in wine, food, and theatre Richmond has to offer!
