U of R Family Weekend September 24 to 26: History, Music, and Arts!

As we are nearing the 150th anniversary commemorations in 2011 of The Civil War and the end of American Slavery, University of Richmond President Edward Ayers is on the schedule this coming Family Weekend for a timely talk, "Why Should We Care About the Civil War?" An historian of the American South, Ayers has written and edited ten books. The Promise of the New South: Life After Reconstruction was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. His talk for Family Weekend will be at the Modlin Center for the Arts Alice Jepson Theater at 4 pm on Friday, September 24th. The schedule for U of R's Family Weekend also includes two Collegiate A Capella Concerts scheduled for Saturday at noon, and an evening concert at 9. As usual, the weekend ends Sunday with Arts Around the Lake.  This will be the 31st anniversary of the annual event featuring 100 local artists.   We are grateful for the many parents (and students and alumni!) of the University of Richmond who have stayed at Maury Place!
