Maury Place Snow Day Getaway

Good afternoon from Maury Place!  Today is definitely a snow day!  It started snowing here in the wee hours of the morning and has not stopped yet at 2:00 p.m. as I write this!  It is looking like we will have at least 12 inches of snow on the ground when this storm ends.  It may be snowy and cold outside, but it is warm and cozy inside at Maury Place.  We have all of our downstairs fireplaces going, and I have just taken a batch of brownies out of the oven.  Something about snow always makes me want to bake!  We have guests lingering in the library enjoying our various books about Richmond history and another couple planning a game of backgammon upon their return from a stroll outside!  By the way, our guests this weekend are from Delaware, Indiana and Chile!  I think some might have been surprised by the severity of the storm, but they are happy to be snowbound at Maury Place!

Reel Pride Richmond: February 5 to 6, 2010 - Five great films to be shown at First Annual LGBT Film Festival

As most of my friends know, I am a movie freak, and I still enjoy going to an actual movie theatre to watch movies surrounded by a real audience. That is one reason we are so happy that Maury Place at Monument is a proud sponsor of Reel Pride Richmond, Richmond's "First Annual LGBT Film Festival"! The film festival is presented by ROSMY (Richmond Organization for Sexual Minority Youth) and will take place at the Firehouse Theatre at 1609 West Broad Street. The opening film on Friday, February 5 is Patrik 1.5 at 8:00 p.m. It will be preceded by a cocktail reception at 7:00 and followed by an after party at 9:30 with DJ. The opening night package is $45. Other films shown on Saturday, February 6 are Out in the Silence at 11:00 a.m.; Baby Formula at 2:30 p.m.; Breakfast with Scot at 4:30 p.m. and Edie and Thea, A Very Long Engagement at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 for students. Out in the Silence on Saturday morning will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session with filmmaker Joe Wilson at 12 noon.  Our Belmont Suite is available for the entire weekend!  Mention the Reel Pride Richmond Film Festival, and book the Belmont Suite for the weekend at a special discounted rate of $150 per night!
