Play Ball!

For baseball fans, the Diamond is the place to be in Richmond this summer!  Richmond's hometown team, The Flying Squirrels, opened their home season last night with a game against the New Britain Rock Cats. All home games are at the Diamond, 3001 North Boulevard, which is just a short drive or a healthy walk from Maury Place!  The Flying Squirrels will offer fireworks after 21 home games this season, and every home game will have at least one promotion.  This season, there will be a variety of theme nights, including  1970's night (May 12), 1980's night (May 26), 1990's night (June 16), and 2000's night (July 21).  Fans are invited to dress in period clothing on those nights, and fireworks on those evenings will be accompanied by music from those days.  There will also be 22 giveaway nights, including cereal bowls (April 10), soccer balls (July 10), lunch boxes (August 21), and bobble heads (August 3).  Retro celebrities such as Anson "Potsie" Williams from "Happy Days" (April 26), Erik Estrada (from "CHiPs) (May 25), and Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins from "Saved by the Bell" (June 15) will also make appearances.  There will be appreciation nights for police (May 17), teachers (June 15), military (June 25) and fans (August 30) and tribute nights for Elvis (May 6), racing (June 27), peanuts (June 28) and BACON (!!?) (May 24).  Sounds like there will be something for everybody at the Diamond this season!!  Go Squirrels!!
