Same Room, Different Season!

We receive many compliments from guests about our front parlor at Maury Place. Guests particularly like the wall paint color, which is a Sherwin Williams color, "French Roast." The dark brown makes for a very cozy room at any time of year, but especially in the fall and winter when we can use the fireplace as seen in the top picture. This spring and summer, however, I had an urge to "lighten" the room for the warmer months. To do so, I removed the larger pillows from the sofas and replaced them with more spring like linen throw pillows that feature bright botanicals, birds and butterflies. I found the pillows at Carytown shops just down the street. I also brought in some side seating in lighter greens. Voila!  The room was transformed for the spring and summer seasons! Come see for yourself at Maury Place at Monument.

On the Map

The $150 million expansion of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in 2010 has not gone unnoticed. Last year, the museum was among thirteen buildings selected from around the world to be awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects International Award. And that's not all! The museum also beat out sites in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia to be named Travel Attraction of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society, marking the first time the award has been given to a museum. The blockbuster Picasso exhibit last year attracted visitors from all corners of the world, and the upcoming Chihuly exhibit this fall also promises to be huge. Now that's a world class museum right around the corner from Maury Place at Monument!

Richmond Voted Outside Magazine's "Best Town Ever"

Virginia's capital city received the most online votes for Outside magazine's "Best Town Ever" contest! The winner will grace the cover of the magazine's October edition--its 35th Anniversary issue, which will hit newsstands in early September. Richmond had a strong online presence and received 9,315 votes--outpacing the next closest vote getter by nearly 6,500 votes. The winning town will be selected based upon two criteria: a ranking of each finalist by number of votes and the creativity of user-submitted content--including photos, videos, and Facebook comments, which will be ranked by Outside editors.

When it comes to outdoor attractions, Richmond truly has it all: miles of hiking and biking trails along the James River, outdoor concerts on Brown's Island, weekly food and cultural festivals, and athletic competitions.
