Virginia Wine Expo Highlights Virginia Wines

Mac and I attended the Virginia Wine Expo Saturday at the Richmond Visitors and Convention Center downtown and sampled wines from several Virginia wineries. We feature only Virginia wines for our Maury Place guests, and we are always on the look out for new favorites. Sales of Virginia wines reached record highs in 2012 with more than 485,000 cases, or 5.8 million bottles sold. Virginia currently ranks fifth in the number of wineries in the nation with 230. Virginia is also the nation's fifth largest wine grape producer.

One of our perennial favorite wineries, Barboursville Vineyards near Charlottesville, VA won the 2013 Virginia Wineries Association's Governor's Cup for its 2009 Octagon 12th Edition. Barboursville thus became the first Virginia winery to win the award four times. We regularly feature Barboursville's pinot grigio and merlot at Maury Place.
