World Cycling Hits Richmond in 2015!

The pinnacle of international cycling is advancing to Richmond! Richmond has been selected to host the 2015 UCI World Championships September 19-27, 2015. "The Worlds" is a nine-day event featuring twelve championship races for Elite Men and Women, Under 23 Men, and Junior Men and Women. It is a rare opportunity for cycling athletes to compete for their country just as they do in the Olympic Games. Athletes compete in three different disciplines including the traditional Road Race, the Individual Time Trial, and the recently introduced Team Time Trial. World Champions will be crowned in each discipline. The final day is the 190-mile Elite Men's road race. This race will likely start in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, or Williamsburg, and advance to Richmond, where there will be  a series of laps around a nine or ten mile circuit, giving spectators plenty of opportunities to see the racing cyclists pass by. Millions of people will be watching worldwide! Given the scenic nature of our Museum District neighborhood and our scenic streets, there is a good chance that at least one of the races will pass right by Maury Place!
